New Zealand Overnight Stays Rise In December

Statistics New Zealand announced on Thursday that the number of guest nights in short-term commercial accommodations totaled around 3.2 million in December, an increase of 4% from a year ago. Domestic guest nights were up 3% while international guest nights were up 7%.

North Island guest nights increased 3% year-on-year to 1.8 million, while South Island guest nights were up 6% to 1.4 million.

Eleven of the 12 regions registered an increase in overnight stays, with Otago, Canterbury, Bay of Plenty and Northland recording the largest gains.
