Malaysia's industrial output grew 8.9% in December from the previous year, reversing a revised 0.8% fall in November, the Department of Statistics said Wednesday. The expected increase for December was 8.7%. Month-on-month, production rose 4.6% in December.
The annual increase in December was driven by a 12.9% rise in manufacturing output and 14.1% growth in electricity production. However, mining recorded an annual decline of 0.2%.
The industrial production index grew 2.9% annually in the fourth quarter. The index for the year of 2009 declined 7.6% as against the same period in 2008.
