The Indonesian economy expanded 5.4% annually in the fourth quarter of 2009, the Statistics Indonesia said in a report on Wednesday. The annual growth rate was 4.2% in the third quarter. On a quarterly basis, gross domestic product contracted 2.4% in the fourth quarter. The economy grew 4.5% in 2009 compared to 2008. Government consumption expenditure increased 15.7% and household spending rose 4.9%. Growth in gross fixed capital formation was 3.3%. At the same time, exports and imports were down 9.7% and 15%, respectively.
