Iceland's jobless rate stood at 9% in January, up from 8.2% in December, the Directorate of Labor said on Wednesday. The agency had expected the rate to come in between 8.6% and 9.1% for January.
There were 16,382 unemployed persons in January, larger than the 13,776 persons in the previous month. The jobless rate for men stood at 9.9% in January, while the jobless rate for women reached 7.9%.
The agency expects the jobless rate to be between 8.9% and 9.3% for February.
