German Q4 Employment Rises

Thursday, Germany's Federal Statistical Office announced that the number of employed persons stood at 40.57 million in the fourth quarter, up from 40.33 million in the previous quarter. A year ago, the employment was 40.73 million.

Compared to the third quarter, the number of persons in employment increased by 245,000 persons or 0.6% in the fourth quarter, the statistical office said. However, the number of employment declined 156,000 persons or 0.4% on an annual basis in the fourth quarter.

The average number of hours worked per person in employment was down by 0.1% to 355.0 hours in the fourth quarter, compared to the 352.6 hours in the third quarter.
