Eurozone trade surplus rose to EUR 4.4 billion in December from a revised EUR 4 billion surplus in November, data released by Eurostat showed Wednesday. Economists had forecast EUR 5 billion surplus.
The seasonally adjusted trade surplus increased to EUR 7 billion from November's EUR 5.3 billion surplus. Exports rose 3.1% month-on-month after stagnating in November. Imports rose for a second consecutive month, with 1.7% growth in December.
In the EU27, the seasonally adjusted trade deficit narrowed to EUR 3.2 billion from EUR 4.7 billion deficit in November. The unadjusted trade deficit for the region contracted to EUR 2.5 billion from a revised EUR 6.8 billion deficit in the previous month.
