Europe's new car registrations rose at a slower annual pace of 12.9% in January, compared with the 16.4% rise in December, the European Automobile Manufacturers' Association said Tuesday.
Due to the continuing effect of various incentive schemes, car sales rose for an eighth straight month in January.
According to ACEA, car registrations surged in almost all major European markets except Germany, where registrations fell 4.3%. Car sales rose by 14.3% in France and by 29.8% in the U.K. In Italy, the increase was 30.2% and rose 18.1% in Spain.
Portugal recorded the biggest increase of 62.1% in January, while Romania saw the sharpest fall of 84.6%.
