Estonia Unemployment Rate Rises To 15.5% In Q4

Statistics Estonia announced on Friday that the unemployment rate stood at 15.5% in the December quarter, with the number of unemployed increasing by 4,400 to 106,700. Some 33,000 of those have been unemployed for a year or more.

The statistical agency also said that the annual average number of employed persons was 596,000 in 2009, which is 9.2% less than in 2008. Employment levels recorded the biggest decrease in the construction industry, followed by other service activities, manufacturing, and accommodation.
