The International Monetary Fund is unlikely to intervene in Ireland's affairs, the IMF's director of external relations Caroline Atkinson told Newstalk radio.
"We don't have a critical list of countries - we wait for countries to ask us," Atkinson told the Irish radio station. "I hope Ireland would be interested in our advice, hard for me to imagine that they would be wanting our money".
"I find it very hard to imagine that Ireland would be in the position of asking for a loan from the IMF", the IMF official said. The lender views itself as a "doctor with a patient - and not a policeman with a criminal", she noted.
