Monday, the Australian Industry Group reported that the AIG / Housing Industry Association Performance of Construction Index stood at a seasonally adjusted 47.6 in November, down from 50.9 in the previous month. A reading above 50 indicates expansion, while one below 50 suggests contraction.
The sub-index measuring activity in the construction sector slid to 49.5 in November from 50.2 in October. The new orders sub-index dropped to 45.6 from 48, while the employment sub-index plunged to 45.8 from 52.6.
Further, the capacity utilization rate in the construction sector climbed to 72.3% in November from 71.2% last month.
