Wednesday, the Office for National Statistics said UK's claimant count rate for September was 5%, up from 4.9% in August. Economists were expecting a rate of 5.1% for September.
The number of people claiming Jobseeker's Allowance benefit in September increased 20,800 to 1.63 million. The expected change for September was 24,500.
In the three months to August, the ILO unemployment rate stood at 7.9%, while the expected rate was 8%. The ONS said average earnings excluding bonuses grew 1.9% in the three months to August from the previous year and earnings including bonuses rose 1.6% from the prior year.
