Thursday, the Office for National Statistics said in a report that business investment in the UK declined 10.4% in the second quarter from the first quarter. Economists had expected just 3.6% decrease. Business investment totaled GBP 29.89 billion, down from GBP 33.37 billion in the first quarter.
Business investment was 18.4% lower than in the second quarter of 2008, while economists were looking for a 12.2% drop.
Business investment by private and public sector manufacturing slipped 17.7% from the first quarter and dropped 18.4% annually.
