Wednesday, the statistical agency Turkstat said the consumer confidence index decreased to 81.30 in August from 82.37 in July. Economists had expected a reading of 80.30.
An index reading below 100 means consumers retain a pessimistic outlook.
Among the sub-indicators, the index for purchasing power in the next six months declined to 77.48 in August from 78.56, while the gauge reflecting consumers' view of the general economic situation in the next three months decreased to 75.79 from 77.13.
Further, Turkish consumers did not find the present period favorable for big purchases. The corresponding index dropped to 105.61 from 109.88.
