Wednesday, a report from the National Statistics Institute said that consumer prices fell 1% year-on-year in September, faster than the 0.8% decrease in the preceding month. The decline was in line with economists' expectations. September marks the seventh consecutive month in which consumer prices have fallen.
Prices in the transportation group recorded the most significant annual decline, down 6.8% in September. Prices of food & non-alcoholic beverages decreased 2.4%.
Month-on-month, consumer prices slid 0.2% in September, in contrast to the 0.4% increase in the previous month. The decrease was in line with economists' expectations.
Meanwhile, the harmonized index of consumer prices slipped 1% on a yearly basis and fell 0.2% on a monthly basis, in line with expectations.
