Wednesday, the Ministry of Employment & Immigration of Spain announced that unemployment rose 2.4% in August compared to the previous month. The rise marks the first increase in four months.
The total number of unemployed persons amounted to 3.63 million in August - an increase of 84,985 persons from July.
The number of unemployed males rose 2.7% on month in August compared to a 2.1% increase among women.
The Secretary General of Employment, Maravillas Rojo, commented that the rise in the unemployed was mainly a result of the slowdown in the tourism industry.
