Friday, Statistics New Zealand announced that the number of guest nights in short-term commercial accommodation establishments increased 3% year-on-year in July, marking only the second month this year that overnight stays have risen on an annual basis.
Domestic guest nights were up 4% on year, while international guest nights were up 2% in July.
Four of the five accommodation types recorded increased overnight stays, with hotels recording the largest rise, up 8% in July from the previous year.
Eight of the 12 regions registered an increase in overnight stays, with Otago, Auckland, and Taranaki/Manawatu-Wanganui recording the largest rises.
