Statistics New Zealand reported Thursday that food prices decreased 0.7% compared to the previous month in September, slower than the 0.9% fall in the previous month.
The decline in food prices was mainly due to falling prices of fruits & vegetables, down 8.4% in September. On the other hand, meat, poultry & fish prices recorded the most significant rise, up 1.8% on month.
On a yearly basis, food prices increased 3.3% in September, slower than the 4.6% rise in the previous month. This marks the slowest annual increase since the 3% rise recorded in June 2007.
