Japan posted a current account surplus of 1.171 trillion yen in August, the Ministry of Finance said on Thursday, marking an increase of 10.4 percent on year. That was above forecasts for a surplus of 1.148 trillion yen following the 1.265 trillion yen surplus in July.
The adjusted current account total came in at 1.233 trillion yen in August, the data showed, topping expectations for a surplus of 1.171 trillion yen after the 1.159 trillion yen surplus in the previous month.
Japan's trade surplus was 303.7 billion yen, higher than forecasts for a surplus of 285 billion yen but down from the 437.3 billion yen surplus a month earlier.
The unadjusted surplus for goods and services came in at 180.9 billion yen.
