German Manufacturing Employment Falls In July

The current weakness of the overall economy is having an impact on the number of employees in manufacturing in Germany, the Federal Statistical Office said Thursday.

The number of persons working in local manufacturing units with 50 or more employees were 5 million, about 202,400 persons or 3.9% less than in July last year.

The number of hours worked in July decreased 10.4% from a year earlier and reached 630 million. The earnings amounted to EUR 16.6 billion, down 8% year-on-year.
