The Monster Employment Index for the whole of Europe fell to 97 in September from 100 in August, mainly due to lower online recruitment activity, the latest report from Monster Worldwide showed Tuesday. Compared to the previous year, the index slipped 37%.
Hugo Sellert, head of economic research at Monster Worldwide said, "Recruitment activity across Europe continues to moderate, indicating organizations remain reluctant to hire as global economic uncertainty lingers. Surprisingly, public sector vacancies are now declining, suggesting strained public finances may now be impacting European governments' job creation ambitions".
"On the upside, however, demand has stabilized for sales and marketing professionals. Recent rises in sentiment indicators such as consumer and business confidence may indeed have encouraged companies to start investing in their workforce in preparation for recovery", he added.
The Monster Employment Index Europe is a monthly analysis of millions of online job opportunities culled from a large, representative selection of corporate career sites and job boards across Europe, including Monster.
