The registered unemployment rate in urban areas was 4.3% at the end of September, unchanged from the second quarter, Yin Chengji, spokesman for China's Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security said Friday.
Around 4.02 million laid-off workers found new jobs in the first nine months, while the government target 5 million for the year. Yin said the employment condition is overall stable. In the first nine months of the year, extra urban jobs totaled 8.5 million. It is expected to exceed the government's target of 9 million for the whole year.
Yesterday, a report from the National Bureau of Statistics showed that Chinese economy expanded at a robust pace of 8.9% in the third quarter, faster than the 7.9% increase in the previous quarter.
