According to a report released by the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries on Tuesday, Australian vehicle sales slipped 3.5% in September from the previous year to 78,131. Meanwhile, sales grew a seasonally adjusted 4.9% on a monthly basis.
FCAI Chief Executive Andrew McKellar said, "The September figure demonstrates signs of consolidation in the new vehicle market." He added, "Economic stimulus has resulted in positive business sales but private buyers need the confidence to return to showrooms in larger numbers."
The report showed that Toyota remained in the top sales position for September with 16,007 vehicle sales.
Year-to-date, auto dealers sold 681,974 new vehicles, down 13.1% compared to the same period last year.
