Tuesday, the Australian Bureau of Statistics announced that merchandise imports increased in original terms in September, rising A$2.15 billion or 14% to A$17.64 billion compared to a revised A$15.49 billion in the previous month.
Imports of machinery & transport equipment, mineral fuels, lubricants & related materials and miscellaneous manufactured articles all recorded significant increases in September.
On a balance of payments basis, preliminary data showed goods imports rose by a seasonally adjusted 6% to A$17.22 billion from A$16.19 billion in August.
