The Monster Employment Index for the UK dropped one point to 109 in August from 110 in the preceding month, with online job availability remaining unchanged for the fifth consecutive month, the latest report from Monster Worldwide said Tuesday.
The firm said although hiring levels dropped 35% year-on-year, job availability seemed to have stabilized from the dramatic decline seen in 2008.
Increased hiring activity were seen in the marketing, PR and media; administrative, organization; banking, finance, insurance; and IT sectors. However, hiring fell in education, training and library; engineering and telecommunications.
"Although employer demand has remained largely stable since the beginning of the year, businesses have not yet resumed hiring. The level of vacancies across the UK is still insufficient to reverse increasing job losses," Hugo Sellert, head of economic research, at Monster Worldwide noted.
Meanwhile, the overall European index fell one point in August, and was down 37% from the previous year.
