Swiss Jobless Rate Rises In August

Switzerland's unadjusted jobless rate rose to 3.8% in August from 3.7% in July, the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs said Tuesday. Economists had forecast the rate of unemployment to climb to 3.9%.

The number of unemployed in August was 150,831, up 5,467 from the previous month.

The seasonally adjusted jobless rate rose to 4% from 3.9% recorded in July. That came less than the expected rate of 4.1%.

There were a total of 208,568 job seekers in August, up 4,431 from July. The number of vacancies fell 1,017 from July to 13,353 in August.
