Monday, the Statistics South Africa said in a report that the wholesale sales at constant prices decreased 13.8% year-on-year in July, compared to the 13.3% fall in the previous month. A year ago, wholesale sales were up 6.5%.
On a monthly basis, wholesale sales dropped 2.1% in July.
In the May to July period, wholesales sales decreased 12.8% compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.
For the first seven months of the year, wholesale sales dipped 10.5% compared to the same period of the previous year.
At current prices, wholesale trade sales dropped 17% on an annual basis in July, after falling 14.9% in June. Month-on-month, wholesale sales were down 0.9%. In the January to July period, wholesale sales decreased 9.1% over a year ago.
Separately, the motor trade sales decreased 11.8% year-on-year in July, compared to the 9.9% decline in the previous month. The motor trade sales dropped 0.6% compared to the preceding month. For the first seven months of the year, the motor trade sales slipped 13.9% over a year ago.
