Wednesday, the Department of Statistics Malaysia announced that the consumer price index or CPI dropped 2.4% year-on-year in August, remained unchanged from the previous month. The consumer price index came in line with economists' expectations.
Food and non-alcoholic beverages prices rose 1.4% on an annual basis in August, while clothing and footwear prices fell 0.8%. Transport charges were down 19.3%.
On a monthly basis, the CPI rose 0.2% in August, faster than the 0.1% growth in the preceding month.
For the January to August period, consumer prices climbed 1.3% compared to the same period of the previous year.
