Casinos in Macau, the special administrative region of China, posted revenues of nearly US$1.5 billion in August, the highest monthly revenue ever, reports said Thursday citing official data.
Revenues at casinos were up 17% year-on-year in August compared to a decline of 12% in the first six months of the year.
The revenues of Macau casinos surged past those in Las Vegas Strip, with the earnings in the region being triple the monthly average of US$470 million earned by casinos in the Las Vegas Strip over the past year.
Earlier in the year, gaming revenues decreased sharply owing to travel restrictions imposted by the Chinese government into the region.
