Wednesday, Latvia's central bank said in a report that the current account surplus increased to 14.2% of GDP in the second quarter, faster than the surplus of 1.3% of GDP recorded in the previous quarter. This was the largest current account surplus since the series started in 1995. The current account deficit was a 16.8% of GDP a year ago.
The capital and financial account recorded net outflows of 531.4 million lats, which resulted from the private sector depositing more abroad and the banking sector decreasing its short-term liabilities, the central bank said.
