Kanye West apologized again for his MTV Video Music Awards outburst during his appearance on The Jay Leno Show Monday night, admitting that he was ashamed of his actions at the awards ceremony.
Speaking with Leno before his performance of Jay-Z's "Run This Town" with Hov and Rihanna, Kanye told the host that his actions were rude and that he'd like to apologize to Taylor Swift in person.
At the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday, West jumped on stage during Swift's acceptance speech after she won the Best Female Video Award and took the microphone from her to give praise to Beyoncé's video.
Kanye later apologized on his blog, but he repeated his apology on Leno.
"My entire life, I've only wanted to give and do something that I felt was right," he told the comedian. "And I immediately knew in the situation that it was wrong, and it wasn't a spectacle...it's actually someone's emotions, you know, that I stepped on."
The rapper also appeared visibly shaken when Leno asked him what his mother, who passed away in 2007, would have said if she saw the stunt.
"Obviously, I deal with hurt, and so many celebrities, they never take the time off, and I never took the time off, really," Kanye said. "I've really never taken the time off. It's been music after music and tour after tour. And I'm just ashamed my hurt caused someone else hurt."
