Wednesday, Japan's former Vice Minister of Finance for International Affairs, Eisuke Sakakibara said the U.S. dollar will stay the main reserve currency, Bloomberg reported.
That was days after the Geneva-based UN Conference on Trade and Development said the role of the U.S. dollar as the main reserve currency should be given to a new global currency, overseen by a new global bank.
"The U.S. will remain as the world leader for at least a few more decades," Sakakibara said in Tokyo.
"The dollar will stay the reserve currency for the next 20 years," he asserted.
