A report of U.S.-based McKinsey and Company on "Environment and Energy Sustainability Report For India" showed that in spite of a 7.5% growth over the two decades, the country would remain the most energy-efficient economy in the world, report media.

The report, in its initial stages, differs from that of the government and some of its academic reviewers. It said India had the potential to go beyond the expected levels and achieve even more greenhouse gas emission-reduction over 20 years.

Rajat Gupta, a Director of McKinsey, attributed the country's poor infrastructure, which is yet to be developed over 80% for the achievement. He added that the new infrastructure could be built on a more climate-friendly fashion.

The consultancy firm suggested massive investment to achieve higher levels of emission-reductions, and estimated an investment of between 500 billion euros and 700 billion for it. The report added that the country, even without extra efforts, could be a most efficient economy in the world.

The report also suggested various measures, including a massive upscaling in nuclear and solar powers that could reduce the emissions in India in 2030 to 3.1 billion tonnes of carbon dioxide from a possible 5.7 billion tonnes. It added only 10% reduction in the emission of 5.7 billion tonnes was readily achievable.
