India is hosting a meeting of the World Trade Organization (WTO) to give a determined push to the Doha deal that could open up the $32-trillion global market, report the media.
Officials say the country expects that the two-day meet will build on the momentum provided by recent political developments and turn them to plan of action.
Australian Trade Minister Simon Crean addressed representatives of the Indian industry, and held bilateral talks with his Indian counterpart, Anand Sharma. He was optimistic that an agreement could be reached by next year.
Crean, who opposes India's stand on farm products by protecting its farmers, said that some political issues were yet to be resolved.
Trade Ministers from the U.S., the European Union, Brazil, China, South Africa and Canada, among others, have arrived for the meet.
