Thursday, the General Secretariat of the National Statistical Service of Greece announced that the jobless rate stood at 8.9% in the second quarter, down from 9.3% seen in the previous quarter. A year earlier, the jobless rate was 7.2%.
In the second quarter, the unemployment for men was 6.3%, while unemployment for women stood at 12.5%.
The number of unemployed persons amounted to 442,563 in the second quarter, while the number of employed totaled 4,485,758 persons.
In June, the jobless rate increased to 8.6% from 8.5% in May. The jobless rate was 7.3% a year ago.
The Greek inflation accelerated in August. The consumer price index or CPI increased 0.8% on an annual basis in August, after the 0.6% growth in July. Inflation edged higher for the second month in a row.
