German Manufacturing Employment Declines In June

Friday, Germany's Federal Statistical Office reported that the number of people worked in local manufacturing units with 50 or more employees declined 3% or 154,900 in June from the previous year. At the end of June, 5.1 million persons worked in manufacturing units. This reflects the impact of current weakness on the manufacturing sector, the statistical office said.

At the same time, the number of hours worked in June decreased 12.6% annually to reach 607 million. Total gross wages and salaries amounted to EUR 18 billion, which was 6.4% lower than in June 2008.
