Wednesday, the Czech Statistical Office announced that the consumer price index or CPI rose 0.2% year-on-year in August, slower than the 0.3% growth seen in the previous month. This was the lowest level since September 2003. Economists were looking for an increase of 0.3%.
On a monthly basis, the CPI decreased 0.2% in August, after falling 0.4% in July. Economists expected a decline of 0.1%. The monthly decline was mainly due to fall in 'food and non-alcoholic beverages' prices.
The harmonized index of consumer prices or HICP remained unchanged on an annual basis in August, after falling 0.1% in July. Month-on-month, the HICP dropped 0.2% in August.
