A survey carried out among businesses across the Auckland region of New Zealand showed a substantial rise in confidence for the September quarter, the Auckland Chamber of Commerce said Monday.
Almost 60% of the 700 firms surveyed expect business conditions to improve in the coming six months, which is almost twice that of the June quarter, while those seeing worse conditions dropped to 6% from 27%.
For their own businesses, 64% of business owners expect improving conditions in the next six months compared to 46% in the June quarter survey. Business owners, who expect business conditions to deteriorate decreased to 7% from 14% in the preceding quarter.
Further, employment opportunities were also on the rise, with 19% of firms surveyed intending to increase their workforce in the September quarter as opposed to 14% in the June quarter survey. Meanwhile, firms finding it easier to employ the right skills had dropped to 28% in September from over 40% in the June survey.
Chamber chief Michael Barnett noted that there are strong indications that with improving business conditions finding people with the right skills will become increasingly difficult.
Also, 40% of firms expect an increase in profitability compared to 25% in the prior quarter, the survey found.
