Retail sales in Australia declined in July by a seasonally adjusted 1.0 percent compared to June.
The Australian Bureau of Statistics reported Wednesday that the data represented the 2nd straight on-month decline in retail activity, following a 0.8 percent decrease in June. Sales increased 1.2 percent in May.
In July, retail sales totaled a seasonally adjusted A$19.62 billion from the June reading of A$19.82 billion.
July 2009 retail sales were higher that the A$1865 billion.
Food retailing declined 1.9 percent, household goods retailing dropped 3.6 percent and clothing, footwear and personal accessory retailing was down 0.6 percent
In non-seasonally adjusted terms, retail turnover increased 2.3 percent in July compared to June.
