UK Trade Deficit Widens In June

Tuesday, the Office for National Statistics reported that the British trade deficit in June widened to GBP 2.2 billion from May's revised shortfall of GBP 1.9 billion. However, the balance stood below the expected deficit of GBP 2.3 billion. The statistical office revised the balance for May from GBP 2.2 billion deficit estimated initially.

The ONS report showed that the deficit on trade in goods stood at GBP 6.5 billion, larger than the revised GBP 6.2 billion deficit in May. Economists were looking for a deficit of GBP 6.2 billion. Meanwhile, the surplus on trade in services was GBP 4.3 billion, the same as in May.
