Consumer confidence in Great Britain improved for the fourth straight month in July, according the latest survey by the Nationwide Building society.
The mortgage lender reported Wednesday that its consumer confidence index for July registered a reading of 60, compared to the June reading of 59.
Nationwide Chief Economist Martin Gahbauer said the recent rise is largely attributable to an improving housing market, and that manufacturing activity is no longer falling as rapidly as it was a few months ago.
The report said 74 percent of those polled said they expect there to be few jobs available in six months, up fro 54 percent in June.
The percentage of consumers saying they believe now is a good time to make a major purchase fell to 35 percent from the June reading of 40 percent.
The survey of 1,000 consumers was conducted between June 22 and July 19.
