Greece June Current Account Deficit Narrows

Tuesday, the Bank of Greece said in a report that the current account deficit declined EUR 633 million to EUR 2.34 billion in June, compared with a EUR 2.98 billion deficit in a year ago.

The services account surplus narrowed to EUR 1.55 billion in June from EUR 2.09 billion in the previous year. At the same time, capital transfers surplus decreased to EUR 74.4 million from EUR 75.9 million, while the financial account surplus rose to 2.55 billion from EUR 2.39 billion.

In June, the current account and capital account deficit stood at EUR 2.27 billion, narrowing from EUR 2.9 billion deficit in a year ago.

For the January to July period, the current account deficit stood at EUR 14.74 billion, down from EUR 19.03 billion in the previous year. During the period, current transfers surplus narrowed to EUR 1.45 billion from EUR 2.38 billion last year, while capital transfers surplus decreased to EUR 901.6 million from EUR 2.18 billion.
