Dutch Inflation Lowest Since Dec. 1987

Thursday, the Netherlands' Central Bureau of Statistics announced that the consumer price index or CPI rose 0.2% year-over-year in July, slower than the 1.4% increase in the previous month. This was the lowest inflation since December 1987. Economists were looking for an increase of 0.7%. A year earlier, consumer prices had grown 3.2%.

On a monthly basis, the CPI dropped 1.1% in July.

Meanwhile, the harmonized index of consumer prices or HICP dropped 0.1% annually in July, in contrast to a 1.1% increase in the previous month. This was the first negative HICP since 1997.
